Senior Companion Program

The Senior Companion Program is the pairing of limited-income seniors with frail elderly individuals who may have difficulty completing everyday tasks. Senior Companions can help write letters, play cards, offer respite care, prepare light meals, shop, arrange for transportation, talk and listen, all at no cost to the client.

The Senior Companion Program is a mutually beneficial program. Companions become involved in a worthwhile cause that provides personal satisfaction and financial assistance. Clients receive assistance in living independently, while their families receive satisfaction in knowing their loved ones are receiving extra help and personal attention.

Those wishing to become Senior Companions must be 60 years of age or older, meet minimum income requirements and enjoy working with other older adults. Companions must pass a doctor’s physical exam and a criminal background check, as well as complete 28 hours of pre-service training.

Companions receive a modest tax-free stipend for approximately 20 hours of service each week, as well as paid holiday, sick and vacation leave, ongoing training, a free annual physical exam and transportation reimbursement.
