At Family Services, we understand that even hardworking people need financial assistance at various times in their lives.

The Ways to Work program assists families by providing small, low-interest loans for car purchases and repairs. This allows parents to stay on the job or in school, even when faced with unexpected challenges.

The purpose of the loan must be transportation-related, such as to buy or repair a vehicle to keep a job or stay in school. Loan applicants are required to complete the application process, attend financial management classes and fully repay the loan within two years.

Eligibility Requirements for a Ways to Work Loan

• Must be employed 20 hours a week for at least six months
• Resident of Montgomery County
• Parent of a dependent child
• Have exhausted traditional lending sources (loans from banks and credit unions)
• Sufficient disposable income to repay the loan
• Household income does not exceed 80 percent of Montgomery County’s median income
